Panda Day

April 20, 2012

When we got off the boat at Chongqing we had to walk up lots of stairs to get up to the street because the city is built on hills.  First we drove to the General Stilwell Museum. General Stillwell was an American general in China during World War II. He helped China fight with Japan.

Now, it was time! We were going to the Chongqing Zoo! They have lots of other animals but the most impressive thing is that they have China’s
 famous giant pandas.

We saw a baby panda rolling around and playing.  I didn’t tickle the baby panda.  Pandas are very lazy.  Here is their daily schedule.  They eat, sit and sleep, repeat this process all day long.  They are sleepy.

We saw five pandas but they like to be alone.  They keep them each in its own area. The Chongqing Zoo has eight.

All over the zoo you see lots of bamboo plants. Pandas eat lots of things but they like bamboo best. This big panda was very relaxed leaning against a log with his lunch all around him.

He must have very sharp teeth.

Pandas love to eat and they love to sleep and they love to sit and roll around.  The baby panda we saw was rolling around.

We got on our airplane to fly to Xi’an. After getting into our room we went out for a dinner of Chinese hot pot.  A hot pot is a pot of hot soup that you dip meat, vegetables, raw eggs and noodles in to cook them.  I thought I’d have noodles and vegetables.

On our way back to the hotel after dinner we stopped to watch a water and light show in the center of the city.  It happens every night in Xi’an.

They play music for the show and lots of people eat ice cream and watch (at least that is what I did.)
